Titanium and Metalmetal titanium
Clay Challenge

Inspired Projects

From the Redwood Forest
by Colleen Stella

I did, "From the Redwood Forest...” with meticulous box construction! I used PMC3, syringe, PMC3 paste, Gage Titanium and fine silver wire. I rolled the back with a

texture to 5 cards thick, and then I made the angled frame with strips that were 3 cards thick. The really tricky part is figuring out all the miters and angles for the frame, since the 5-sided
back was not equal sided at all, it was cut free hand. After fighting, an “oops,” I figuring out all the miters and dry fitting, I applied each piece with syringe and then filled all gaps and holes with PMC3 paste. Then there was lots of sanding and refining.

I drilled 3 holes in the back for the prongs that I made from fine silver wire and inserted before firing. I also applied 2 bails to the back for the neck wire. After firing, I polished then painted liver of sulfur (LOS) on to achieve the right colors. (Learned this in the LOS talk at the PMC Conference, oh yeah, Holly, you were the speaker!) I then highlighted the edges of the frame with a burnisher, and set the Titanium in the prongs.

I do love working with this Titanium. Thanks again for the challenge. Sometimes, some of us just need that extra kick in the “you know what!!!”
