When Life Gets Tough, What's An Artist To Do? Get Creative And Bring A Little HOPE!

When the Coronavirus started to ramp up, I noticed many reactions to the situation.

As a part of the jewelry and creative arts community, my observations fell in three camps. Some are getting straight to work and making designer masks for health care workers, themselves, and friends, which I think is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Some are having much trouble being creative because their minds just can't focus, so they go in the studio and sit and stare hoping motivation and inspiration will divert their attention to something more positive. I admit to a day or two like this myself.

Others are expressing their feelings through art, including missing loved ones, expressing their isolation, or trying to show their hopes and faith for when this is all over. Now, that last one appealed to me!

Creative Hope Jewelry Project Challenge and Virtual Exhibit

As the Stay at Home order extends and continues to keep us in, I started to contemplate how to tap into the creative collective, so the Creative Hope Jewelry Project Challenge and Virtual Exhibit was born. The Creative Hope Jewelry Project is designed to be an uplifting expression of hope. It is meant to serve as a source of inspiration for the creators and viewers of the Creative Hope Jewelry Project Challenge and Virtual Exhibit. This Virtual Exhibit represents jewelry makers using various materials from Metal Clay, resin, gems, metals, enamel, polymer, beads, mixed media and more. It will be far-reaching to inspire many, therefore PR distribution will be to social and media outlets across many platforms. Oh, yeah, of course, there will be awards in 4 categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, and Honorable Mention. You can win Metal Clay, an Artisan Opal, and a Jewelry Making Tutorial from me, and more as we gather more awards to add to the fun. You can find all the details at the Creative Hope Jewelry Project Challenge and Virtual Exhibit.

Live Online Jewelry Classes Help to Connect with Others While Staying at Home

I'm continuing to teach Metal Clay and jewelry classes live online to small groups of 4-5 or so. We interact with each other and it is a great way to connect without leaving your house. The other really nice thing is we are checking in with each other to make sure everyone is ok. One student told me, "I would be going insane without seeing and talking to other people and look forward to class each week." Another student said, "The classes are helping me to stay creative and having a goal each week to complete my jewelry piece is just what I need to stay focused." I have several classes to choose from, so won't you join me?
