Finding My Artistic Jewelry Voice
with Holly Gage

I am so happy to have started my Pay It Forward Events. This is the first of five. As you listen to the recording below for "Finding My Artist Voice," you will see I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing five talented jewelry artisans with diverse styles. Anastasiya Stepnova, Jo-Anne Sofianek Frazier, Lisa Barnes, Phyllis Cahill, and Susan Marie Thrasher Dees. (From left to right above)

Our goal with the webinar was to open the door of possibility, invite you in to see the secrets of uncovering that artistic voice within YOU! Here are some of the questions I asked the panel of artists, and aren't these questions the same boggling our minds as we try to separate ourselves from others in our field?

  • How did you start the process of creating your own jewelry line?

  • What motivations lead you to create a jewelry line?

  • What struggles did you need to overcome in making your jewelry line?

  • With so many outside influences, how did you separate your style from other jewelry artists?

  • Do you have any advice for others who want to create a jewelry line of their own?

Throughout our conversation, you get to see examples of their gorgeous jewelry and learn about their journey to create a cohesive, unified jewelry line. Influences for each artist varied from architecture to nature to historical Edwardian to their personal influences. The mediums and skills they use are as diverse as they are, from Metal Clay, Metalsmith, Polymer Clay, Gem Setting, Inlay, and more. I got to know these ladies pretty well after spending 10 weeks with them in my Art of Design a Signature Jewelry Line series as they soul-searched right up until that ah-ha moment... and yes, they all had one. They all found the You-nique-ness within themselves, and we hope you will too!

I want to give a shout-out to our wonderful panel of ladies for taking the time to allow us into the process. I also want to thank my husband Christopher for providing one of his Cultured Opals as a part of the give-aways, usually only available at his Friday 10 to 10 Auctions, and being behind the scenes in so many ways, but especially to assist me in putting together these Pay It Forward Events. We both are so thankful for the love and support we have received over the years from a loving and caring community.

Please join Chris and me for the next Free Pay It Forward Event 2: Why am I so Overwhelmed? Setting Successful Goals for Your Jewelry Business on January 4. Details below.
