Why am I so Overwhelmed?
Setting Successful Goals for Your Jewelry Business
with Holly Gage

This is the second of five Pay It Forward Events, and Chris and I are excited about providing jewelry business advice to help you run your jewelry business a bit smoother. As a jewelry business mentor, jewelry and Metal Clay instructor, and someone who has been in the industry for over 42 years, people at all levels of experience come to me for advice. They are often overwhelmed with all the duties involved in running a successful micro business. We typically don’t have a “guy” for each task that needs to be done, so it can be a vast feat in juggling. Learning how to prioritize your business goals, organizing the different facets, and tackling them in a logical sequence is very helpful. Sometimes we need to eliminate things we thought were crucial, but find out they are not. We often bang our heads against the wall because we hate doing specific non-jewelry-making tasks such as website updates, so it never gets done. Luckily in the video above, we will get you started by discussing a successful plan:

  • Prioritizing goals.

  • Identifying the benefits.

  • Understanding the hurdles.

  • How to develop a step-by-step plan.

  • How to stay on track, and more.

I also provide an Action Plan for Goal Making worksheet for each goal, and a well-thought-out step-by-step approach discussed in the video on helping you get out of your own way and achieve success.

Finding My Artistic Jewelry Voice with Holly Gage

During the session, I mentioned why we are doing these Pay It Forward events. My husband and son were in an explosion about 3 years ago. They became burn survivors. Through a long healing process that Chris is still going through, our family received a tremendous amount of love and support from the jewelry community, doctors, family, and friends. We knew we couldn’t possibly back it all back, but we could Pay it Forward, and it is this extreme gratitude that motivates us.

I’ve included an uplifting podcast interview, where Christopher shares his trauma story and post-traumatic growth with Rio Grande’s, For the Love of Jewelers. This was a trauma he suffered so intense that it altered the course of his life. “As horrible as the whole thing was, there is something to be gained from it,” Chris says. His positive attitude allowed Chris to use the Lapidary Arts to heal physically and mentally throughout an incredibly challenging ordeal. I hope this story inspires you to believe in the seemingly impossible, and help you understand the Pay It Forward effort. https://www.buzzsprout.com/670069/9741286

Here is one of three give-a-ways my husband Christopher provided during the presentation — one of his Cultured Opals. LouJean Fobert was the lucky winner. His Opals are usually only available at his Friday 10 to 10 Auctions, on his facebook page, so feel free to stop by and check out his handy work.
